The choir closed December 2019 with these events.

The month of December was both an enjoyable and emotional month of events for Colwyn choir.

The Choir at the RNLI 2019 Carol Service at the Boathouse.

It began on Sunday the 8th with the Llandudno Lifeboat’s Annual Carol service held in the boathouse itself. The event was supported with a full house which shared a wonderful inspirational mix of readings, carols and items from the choir. It included the carol ‘The story of Christmas’ sung by a party from the volunteers themselves. Refreshments were provided afterwards with donations taken to support the RNLI in Llandudno.
We remained with Llandudno as a location for our next event, a joint concert with the Llandudno Town band at St John’s Methodist Church. A Christmas festival with this in mind for the songs played and sung. We believe this is the first time for the choir and band to share the stage in the wonderful venue in the heart of Llandudno. All proceeds were in aid of four charities including Alder Hay Hospital.

Our Last Concert with Tudur Eames

On Sunday the 15th we had our annual last concert of the year in our home village of Colwyn. St John’s Church in Colwyn was full to listen to the choir and items from soloists from within the choir. They also had the opportunity to join us in singing carols accompanied on the organ by Quentin Bellamy who is the vicar of the church. A voluntary donation to charity was taken at the end of the evening.

The concert was an emotional event for the choir as this was Tudur Eames’ last time leading us as Musical Director of the choir. Having been with us for five and a half years which included very many enjoyable events and concert tours. Also of course having brought many new pieces to our repertoire which he taught us with great skill and his infectious humour and warm personality. We wish him well on his new full time career path and give our appreciation to all that he brought to Côr Meibion Colwyn during his time with us.

Our final and what is now a traditional night of carols at the Red Lion Inn in Old Colwyn on Tuesday the 17th. A night full of joy and beverage, the choir under the direction of our two accompanists, Mary Darling on the piano and Anne Levitt conducting us on the night. Many carols were sung during the evening with the customers provided with carol sheets to join us.

Following our Christmas break the choir will return renewed under the Musical Directorship of Owain Gethin Davies. Owain Gethin is an accomplished and well respected musician and Deputy Headmaster at Ysgol Y Creuddyn. We are privileged to welcome him to the choir and with whom we look forward to another exciting chapter in the choir’s musical journey. Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening at 7pm at the Old Colwyn Community Centre, Rosehill in Old Colwyn. Any prospective choristers who may wish to join us are invited to come along to meet us where a warm welcome awaits.
