The Joint concert last September at St John’s Church Llandudno

On the 22nd September 2018 we had a joint concert with the New Mill Male Voice Choir from Yorkshire.

The New Mill Male Voice Choir

The New Mill Male Voice Choir is based in the village of New Mill near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, not far from the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ town of Holmfirth. The choir was founded in 1991 when twelve men gathered in a local public house to sing. Len Williams, a former singer with the Welsh National Opera, became Musical Director and provided the inspiration and encouragement to form these men into a Choir. Two years later and with three times more members the Choir sang as part of the World Choir at Cardiff Arms Park under the baton of Owain Arwel Hughes with Shirley Bassey as the main attraction.

There is a link between the two choirs as for many years their accompanist was Anne Levitt until she and her husband moved to North Wales, Penrhyn Bay. Through a contact within our choir we asked Anne whether she would be interested in joining our musical team.  We were so pleased when she agreed and now an important part of the choir and she is also expanding her skills by actively learning Welsh.

The concert was a great success enjoyed by both choirs. Also it continued into the pub afterwards,, all in the name of music of course and to quench the thirst after some great singing. With the ale came another rush of great songs individually and as a group. Comic and moving. It was a shame the pub had to close but breakfast was only a few hours away.

Hopefully we will join again in song very soon and best wished to New Mill on their annual concert in the Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday the 6th of October with the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain. Details on the New Mill MVC website.
