Côr Meibion Colwyn at St John’s Church Llandudno

Côr Meibion Colwyn is prepaaring  for its 2015 season with a good mixture of concerts, other events aand competition in the schedule.  Our Musical Director Tudur Eames is preparing a concert repertoire which includes favourites that are popular with all audiences alongside pieces that are new to the choir both challenging and entertaining. Having surprised audiences with the Cowboy Carol and Santa Claus is Coming to Town over Christmas thus showing the choir has got the ‘swing’, there should be some interesting pieces to come.  However male choral favourites will still play their part in the Repertoire. O Gymru a song of our beloved country will kick off a repertoire of songs from theatre, popular music and films such as Some Enchanted Evening and You raise Me Up. Operatic pieces such as Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, always popular among male choirs,  and The Soldiers Chorus from Faust. Also some great male voice choral sounds from pieces such as The Lost Chord and a trio of songs from America under the title The American Trilogy. Be prepared to be uplifted by joyous spirituals such as Amen (this Little Light of Mine) and The Silver Trumpet. Half of our repertoire wil be in Welsh as the audience would expect, the folk song Ar Lan y Mor alongside the hymn Gwahoddiad with some more recent compositions such as Ai Am Fod Haul yn Machlud, Bendigedig, Pan for Nos yn Hir a Tydi a Dy Ddoniau.  Two new pieces to our repertoire which can only be described as a complete contrast are John Rutters beautiful setting of the hymn For The Beauty of the Earth and much covered song, a hit for Jimmy Young in the 50’s, Unchained Melody. We are still learning new pieces that could be included once learnt but ultimately we  guarantee to entertain at every event we undertake.

However also in our preparation for 2015 is for competition and Tudur will select pieces for those important and challenging events.

A very warm welcome is extended to new members to join us for the fellowship and the enjoyment of singing.
